This is a research book from the fascinating history of Spain of the 19th century whose thread is the saber of the cover that belongs to the legacy of the Lieutenant General and Spanish Senator D. Zacarías González Goyeneche. In it, I try to unveil the mystery of an object that is out of place, which is part of a family myth transmitted orally for 120 years and it is, at the same time, the evidence of the interest of the different U.S. Administrations in their territorial expansion, even before its Civil War.

Its history has led me to the evidence of the direct, tactical and strategic participation in the Ten Years' War of the successive U.S. Administrations (16th, 17th and 18th, with the Presidencies of Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson and Ulysses S. Grant respectively) aimed to capturing Cuba for its political domain, concretizing in the following actions:

1st.- Creation of an independent espionage network that could exist from the U.S. Embassy and Consulates dedicated to structuring through Masonic Lodges to Cuban society to generate the insurrection and communicating coded messages between the Cuban Revolution Board and the legation settled in the city of New York.

2nd.- The personal relationship of the U.S. General Thomas Jordan with the 18th Presidency of the U.S.A.. He was appointed as Chief of the Staff of the insurgent Army in Cuba.

3rd.- The personal relationship of the Spanish-North American General Federico Fernández-Cavada Howard, successor of General Thomas Jordan as Chief of Staff of the insurgent Army, with the 17th and 18th U.S. Presidencies.

Each piece of my research is supported by documents and bibliography and the culmination of its targets meant the end of the Spanish Empire and the arose of the U.S. one. This story completely modifies the knowledge that Spanish and U.S. society has of facts that changed the world in the 19th century and its echo still endures until this days.
